Chic Cicero
The Golden Don
How could a small time hoodlum from Hoboken, NJ, rise through the ranks
of the esoteric community to become the Golden Don of magick? Behind
his spin and rhetoric, Chic Golden Don Ciceros rags to riches rise to
fame and recognition as a pillar of the esoteric community, lurks a
dark tale of exploitation of women, lies, deceit, threats, legal
conflicts, and intimidation.
Charles (Chic) Cicero, Jr., was born in April, 1936 in Hoboken, New
Jersey, where his father ran a barbershop which doubled as a betting
parlor sanctioned by New Jerseys Cavalcanti Crime Family. Chic married
Eva, whose maternal uncle, Salvatore (Sal) Lozito, was a lieutenant in
the Cavalcanti crime Family with connections to the Teamsters Union
until his death in 1977. Though Chic never managed to become a made
man, his connection to Uncle Sal was sufficient for him to be tolerated
as a low-level hoodlum, numbers runner, and part-time enforcer on a
small scale by the Cosa Nostra in New Jersey.
After several run-ins with the law, however, the New Jersey mob came to
tire of Chic. (Eva, after he dumped her, would tell friends that her
Uncle Sal detested Chic and only tolerated him). Chic decided to move
south. With little or no money, but a lot of guile, he ended up in
Columbus, Georgia. There he ran a prostitution ring using streetwalkers
to make enough money to buy a strip club. Chic Ciceros Columbus, GA new
strip club, the Shady Lady Lounge, suddenly provided a "legitimate"
outlet for the continuing operation of drug sales and prostitution that
brought in a large bankroll for Chic and his former wife Eva.
In a recent legal twist, the Golden Don Cicero testified that:
"It is not true that I used to run a strip joint of the sleaziest kind
and that I personally exploited women or was involved in prostitution."
The below business license, however, clearly indicates Charles (Chic)
Cicero, Jr., as the owner of the Shady Lady Lounge, located at 2240 Ft.
Benning Rd. in Columbus, GA.
The Ft. Benning Rd. area of Columbus, Georgia, commonly known as "VD
Row," is the home of a series of establishments catering to the
libidinal needs of servicemen at the nearby Fort Benning army base.
Whether or not the Shady Lady strip club was of the sleaziest kind is
open to interpretation. It is well known, established fact, however,
that in 1986 prostitution flourished out of the strip joints along Ft.
Bennings, VD Row.
In the same court case, related to allegations including Cicero mob
ties, the Golden Don Cicero further testified that:
"My record clearly shows that I was a law-abiding businessman in the
state of Georgia and I had a valid liquor license for several years."
Doesnt this argument sound awfully familiar? NY Mafia boss, John Gotti
also repeatedly claimed in court that he was just a law-abiding
businessman. Chic Golden Don Cicero may not have been burying people in
holes out in the desert like Joe Pesci in the Martin Scorsese film,
Casino, but it is obvious what kind of business the Golden Don was
really running down on V.D. row!
In the same court case (99 CV 8614, US District Court, Southern
District of New York), the Golden Don testified:
"For the record, I was never convicted of a violent offence,
and presented the above business license as evidence that he was not a
felon.
Indeed, Chic Cicero is not a convicted felon. What Golden Don Cicero
neglected to mention in his testimony, however, is that he had indeed
been arrested some half a dozen times over the years, had managed to
get off four times, plead down to a misdemeanor twice, spent a few
months in the Hoboken lock-up followed by probation on the first, and
got two years straight probation on the second occasion.
Unfortunately for his wife, Eva, Chic Cicero always had an eye for the
ladies. Despite Golden Don Ciceros contentions that he does not exploit
women, a former bartender of the Shady Lady Lounge bears witness that:
"Chic slept with all of the girls, but so what? If a girl wanted to
work at the Shady Lady Lounge, of course she had to go to bed with
Chic. This was clear to everyone, but there is nothing unusual about
that in a strip joint."
Even more unfortunately for Eva, Chic did not let it stop there, but
became enamored with a young stripper went by the stage name of
Samantha Midnight. Indeed, Golden Don Cicero fell so deeply in love
with Samantha Midnight that he dumped his first wife Eva to marry
Samantha, now Sandra Tabatha Cicero.
Tabatha, of course, should really have expected the same treatment from
Chic in the end. Naturally, Golden Don Ciceros penchant for the ladies
did not stop when he fled to Florida to avoid arrest on pandering
charges in Georgia. Indeed, several female, former members of his
Elfers, Florida based, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc., have
courageously come forth to document the shocking truth:
"I was a member of Chic and Tabbys New Port Richey temple. At first I
was flattered when Chic kept wanting to meet me privately. Before I
knew what was happening though, I was in the middle of a full-blown
affair with him. Chic got scared that Tabby would find out about us,
with me being in the temple and all. He dumped me ice cold, then kicked
me out of the order. I was crushed. It took three years psychotherapy
for me to recover from this. I am glad that the truth is finally coming
out" - Soror I.A.
"I was a member of Chic Ciceros New Mexico temple. I was told that in
order to be admitted to the Second Order, I first had to spend time
doing private magical work together with Chic. It became obvious that I
would never make Adeptus Minor unless I actually slept with him.
Disgusted, I quit the order, having wasted three years of my life
believing in the Golden Dawn." - Soror S.O.D.D.
These are just two of many incidents of the exploitation of women in
his order by Chic Cicero. These two women have courageously come
forward despite threats, intimidation, contacting employers, etc., from
Chic Cicero. Who knows how many others like them out there too afraid
to speak out, silenced by Ciceros threats and intimidation?
In the late 1970s, the Golden Don tried to ingratiate himself with
Grady MacMurtry, the Chief of the OTO at the time. Chic was mildly
successful, and began operating an oasis of the OTO in Columbus in
addition to his Shady Lady operation. MacMurtry quickly saw through
Chics ambitions, however, so the Golden Don set his sights on better
prey and contacted Israel Regardie.
Chic Cicero has misrepresented himself for years as Regardies student,
and has created much of his Teflon reputation by hitching his wagon to
the mule of Israel Regardie. Cicero has claimed variously to have been
Regardies student as well as his long time friend! In truth, the Golden
Don only ever met Regardie on two occasions!
Cicero got Regardies attention by building a magical chamber called a
Vault of the Adepti, used for certain ceremonies by the Hermetic Order
of the Golden Dawn. Indeed, the only reason that Cicero ever met
Regardie, was that Regardie was convinced to travel to Columbus, GA in
1982 by his then girlfriend, Cris Monnastre (Patricia Behman), who
wanted Regardie to initiate her in the Vault of the Adepti.
At first, Dr. Regardie was reluctant to in any give any support to a
man who owned a strip club. Cris, however, persuaded Dr. Regardie to
give Chic a chance. On the second of these two visits, the only actual
contact Chic ever had with Dr. Regardie, the latter allowed himself to
be photographed with Chic outside his Vault. When Chic Cicero later
publicly announced that Dr. Regardie had "consecrated" his Vault, Dr.
Regardie made a public announcement that he had no authority to
consecrate a Vault or to issue a Charter.
Chic Golden Don Cicero has also created the public misimpression that
he was initiated in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn by Regardie.
This is completely false. Chic Cicero did not, as he sometimes claims,
receive initiation into any grade of the Golden Dawn, or any other
Order, from Dr. Regardie personally. While in Columbus, Regardie
deliberately did not initiate Cicero at all, but only wife, Eva, (into
the Neophyte Grade) and Regardies own girlfriend, Cris Monnastre
(Patricia Behman), into the Adeptus Minor grade, together with Adam
Forrest (Larry Epperson), another of Regardies students. Cicero,
himself, if at all, was only ever initiated by Larry Epperson.
Further, Chic Cicero was never, as he claims, a student of Dr.
Regardie. In fact, over the years, Dr. Regardie only had a total of
four students: Cris Monnastre (Patricia Behman), Adam Forrest (Larry
Epperson), Dr. Christopher Hyatt (Alan Miller), and the late David
Kennedy. In fact, Dr. Regardie only put Cicero in touch with Larry
Epperson.
The truth is that Chic Cicero barely knew Regardie. Many people believe
Chic Cicero has a weird father complex, thing with Regardie, glorifying
him and doing everything possible to associate the Cicero name with
Regardies in the public mind. The real reason for this, however, is
economical. Golden Don Cicero has created a vast empire by republishing
Regardies old books with the Cicero name side by side.
Chic Golden Don Cicero has himself only written (together with his
wife) a bunch of New Agey books through Llewellyn which are little more
than plagiarisms combined with insultingly simplistic generalizations
(theres a book on Qabalah which includes the statement, "Im Netzach,
and I like to have fun"), promotes a system of Self-Intiation which is
nothing more than undisciplined daydreaming disguised as guided
meditation, and Carnival-like productions which he calls "Tree Walks"
(people costume themselves as Sephira), and sells tickets to "G.D."
lectures. He did prepare a fairly decent book on tool making but then
Cicero, though he only has a Tenth Grade education, does have some
training as a carpenter and currently owns a woodworking shop.
Chic Cicero has created a corporation called "The Hermetic Order of The
Golden Dawn, Inc." which claims to "preserve" Golden Dawn papers (he
does own a few odds and ends which Maria Babwasingh bought for him).
The secret purpose of this Florida Corporation, however, is to provide
a vehicle for Chic Golden Don Cicero to use its not-for-profit status
to evade taxes on his book profits and income from his woodworking
business, lectures, and workshops while expensing his fairly frequent
pleasure junkets to Europe and a series of other expenses associated
with maintaining his book sales.
Golden Don Cicero made a bid for total control of the Hermetic Order of
the Golden Dawn in 1994, when he kicked Regardies old girlfriend, Cris
Monnastre (Patricia Behman), out of her own order, telling everyone
that she had resigned. Cicero then tried trademark the Hermetic Order
of the Golden Dawn name in a bid for absolute control of everything
having to do with the order. Cicero almost got away with it too, except
that David Griffin (Frater Adolf) took up the cause of the matronly Ms.
Monnastre, and forked out vast sums of money to stop Cicero from
completely controlling the Golden Dawn name. Employing the OTOs lawyer
who had won the OTO versus Motta case, Stuart MacKenzie, Griffin
mounted a successful legal challenge that stopped Cicero dead in his
tracks.
Since then, there has existed a sort of Mexican standoff between Cicero
and Griffin, neither one being able to completely control the Hermetic
Order of the Golden Dawn name. It has been rumored that, as a
consequence, Golden Don Cicero has put out a contract on Griffin
through his old Mob contacts in New Jersey (There is, of course, no way
to verify this unless Frater Adolf actually gets plugged some day!).The
Cicero organization has gone to great lengths to portray itself as the
protector and preserver of the Golden Dawn tradition, claiming so
directly on their web site. Regarding the Hermetic Order of the Golden
Dawn trademark, the Golden Don Ciceros web site claims that:
"We wish to assure the public that there will be no attempt to impede
the rights of authors and publishers to write and to publish books and
articles concerning the Golden Dawnor of the legitimate and lawful
rights of magical and Hermetic groups and organizations to use the
traditional teachings and symbolism of the Golden Dawn."
Unfortunately just the opposite is true. While accusing other
individuals and groups of making threats, Golden Don Cicero and his
Elfers, Florida based Corporation has, as a matter of fact, filed one
law suit after the other, to interfere not only with the rights of
authors and other groups to use the Golden Dawn name, but more
importantly, to silence all criticism of Chic Cicero, especially from
former members of their order! (See, for example NY State Court
HUD-L-5270-98 Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc. vs. Li and
Bucholz and Federal Court Cases: 1:99-cv-08614-DLC The Hermetic Order,
et al v. Fytton, et al, and 00-CV-20802 Cicero v. Word).
Thus we see Chic Cicero consistently using the mafia-like tactics of
intimidation, lies, double cross and deception, while using his Florida
based not-for-profit Corporation to give himself an air of legitimacy,
as a tax evasion scheme, and as a vehicle to launder money from his
other more illicit activities. Obviously, Chic Cicero has never been
able to transcend the values he learned on the streets of Hoboken, New
Jersey.
By systematically and repeatedly spreading false rumors, Chic Cicero
has attempted to destroy the reputation of other leaders of the
esoteric community. Interestingly, Chic Cicero frequently accuses
others of using the very mafia-like tactics that are actually his modus
operandi. Chic Cicero has mistreated and exploited women, from the
erotic dancers of the Shady Lady Lounge to the unfortunate victims who
joined his order, and he has on numerous occasions used threats and
mafia-like intimidation tactics to all silence criticism of himself. In
short, Chic Cicero has finally achieved the goal he has had since he
was just a boy running numbers on the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey:
At long last, Chic Cicero has become:
The Golden Don

with Samantha Midnight that he dumped his first wife Eva to marry
Samantha, now Sandra Tabatha Cicero.
Tabatha, of course, should really have expected the same treatment from
Chic in the end. Naturally, Golden Don Ciceros penchant for the ladies
did not stop when he fled to Florida to avoid arrest on pandering
charges in Georgia. Indeed, several female, former members of his
Elfers, Florida based, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc., have
"I was a member of Chic and Tabbys New Port Richey temple. At first I
was flattered when Chic kept wanting to meet me privately. Before I
knew what was happening though, I was in the middle of a full-blown
affair with him.

While the spin does take some morally judgemental turns, I'm not completely sure how it stands for accuracy.

For instance, I was pretty certain Chic Cicero moved from Columbus Georgia to Florida around 1983.

Chic Golden Don Cicero may not have been burying people in
holes out in the desert like Joe Pesci in the Martin Scorsese film,
Casino, but it is obvious what kind of business the Golden Don was
really running down on V.D. row!

been arrested some half a dozen times over the years, had managed to

months in the Hoboken lock-up followed by probation on the first, and
got two years straight probation on the second occasion.
Unfortunately for his wife, Eva, Chic Cicero always had an eye for the

Cicero got Regardies attention by building a magical chamber called a

of the Golden Dawn. Indeed, the only reason that Cicero ever met

Chic Golden Don Cicero has also created the public misimpression that
he was initiated in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn by Regardie.

deliberately did not initiate Cicero at all, but only wife, Eva, (into

Indeed, several female, former members of his
Elfers, Florida based, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc., have
"I was a member of Chic and Tabbys New Port Richey temple. At first I
was flattered when Chic kept wanting to meet me privately. Before I
knew what was happening though, I was in the middle of a full-blown
affair with him.

A couple more points in addition to your not directly bringing this up to the person you're talking about to his face in person; 1. Education grades have no bearing on a persons intelligence or lack thereof, 2. Who cares? In Christ we have no condemnation. A person involved in anyway with Christ, mystical or not, has the gift of the Grace from God.

So you are bring this here to what end? What is your personal issue with this person or organization? In your allegations, why have you not brought these to law enforcement officials?

importantly, to silence all criticism of Chic Cicero, especially from

When one reads all the material, or most of it, on the History of the HOGD and the various personalities, schisms, ego expansion, fake "Adept" degrees passed out, infighting, etc., one can only come to the conclusion that there was something seriously wrong with the whole edifice of the GD, not-withstanding the highly decorated SRIA personages involved in its' formation/inception. Nor does it disqualify completely its' teachings or all of its Rituals. But, it seems as though the GD and all its offshoots were, and are today, rife with self-delusion about "advanced levels of attainment".

Indeed, several female, former members of his
Elfers, Florida based, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Inc., have
"I was a member of Chic and Tabbys New Port Richey temple. At first I
was flattered when Chic kept wanting to meet me privately. Before I
knew what was happening though, I was in the middle of a full-blown
affair with him.
While accusing other
individuals and groups of making threats, Golden Don Cicero and his
Elfers, Florida based Corporation has, as a matter of fact, filed one
law suit after the other, to interfere not only with the rights of
authors and other groups to use the Golden Dawn name, but more

businessman. Chic Golden Don Cicero may not have been burying people in
holes out in the desert like Joe Pesci in the Martin Scorsese film,
Casino, but it is obvious what kind of business the Golden Don was
really running down on V.D. row!

been arrested some half a dozen times over the years, had managed to
get off four times, plead down to a misdemeanor twice, spent a few
months in the Hoboken lock-up followed by probation on the first, and
got two years straight probation on the second occasion.

Indeed, several female, former members of his

was flattered when Chic kept wanting to meet me privately. Before I
knew what was happening though, I was in the middle of a full-blown
affair with him. Chic got scared that Tabby would find out about us,
with me being in the temple and all. He dumped me ice cold, then kicked
me out of the order. I was crushed. It took three years psychotherapy
for me to recover from this. I am glad that the truth is finally coming

In

I'm someone who truly knows from firsthand experience. Pillow Talk Lounge, Inferno Club, both the same building in downtown Columbus, just renamed. Strip club and various other "endeavors". My life was severely damaged and is still to this day, with hiv, hep c, and emotional damaged. I was recruited to work behind the bar for him at the age of 18, where I was taught how to bartend after being a barback, while my oldest sister was a stripper for him there. I was indoctrinated into their cult (him and his wife's) at the risk of losing my job. My sister's life was irreparably damaged as well. So cruel for people like him to prey on young, innocent life. Yes I know all about his doings and about him. I'm a little surprised he is still floating around.

I know first-hand of his cruelty and the ruining of young, innocent lives from my own experience and others. My biggest mistake ever was running into his operation at the age of 18 or so, maybe younger, and my sister being recruited by him before then. Yes I have much experience with these people and their cult, "recruiting means" and their life in Columbus GA at the Inferno Club, formerly the Pillow Talk Lounge, in downtown Columbus. I'm a little surprised he is still around. I have a vast knowledge of this guy and his wife. Any questions feel free to contact me.
