Some examples of thorns in religion, folklore, mythology and history that I
know of are:

1. the thorn bush of Moses
2. the crown of thorns of Jesus (plus the thorns around the heart of Jesus in
the old Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus picture)
3. the piercing of hands and feet mentioned in the Old Testament
4. the self-sacrifice of Quetzalcoatl on thorns
5. the “dragon-demon’s thorns” in a poem by Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth
Dalai Lama
6. the hedge of thorns that the hero has to burst through in the original
Sleeping Beauty story
7. the wall of thorns in the Pied Piper story, inside which a blind boy and
another child are left behind after all the other children pass through

Do you know of any other instances?

I suspect that the spear and tree in Havamal 138 and the boar’s tusks that
wounded Adonis may also have been thorns.

Also there may be some association of fairies with thorns.

1. the thorn bush of Moses
Moses was an astrologer.

Thorns in astrology speak is about 'not quite harmonious'

think a circle.
Now think the circle in 24 parts.
now erect barriers between the parts.

that is a fairly decent approximation of how astrology works.

2. the crown of thorns of Jesus (plus the thorns around the heart of Jesus in
the old Catholic Sacred Heart of Jesus picture)
Jesus had the crown of thorns above/upon hir head.

what is above tiphareth/Jesus /

Satyrs ?

Legend claims a satyrs horn, when cut off a fresh satyr kill, and then
filled with the Satyrs blood and whine, will after that never run out of
whine.

Or wine, scriptures are unclear ;)

Here’s what I have on my website:

"In the book
PAGAN & CHRISTIAN CREEDS: THEIR ORIGIN AND MEANING
( http://www.gutenberg.org/files/1561/1561-h/1561-h.htm )
by Edward Carpenter it says:

(2) See Kingsborough's Mexican Antiquities, vol. vi, p. 176, where it is said
"an ambassador was sent from heaven on an embassy to a Virgin of Tulan,
called Chimalman... announcing that it was the will of the God that she
should conceive a son; and having delivered her the message he rose and left
the house; and as soon as he had left it she conceived a son, without
connection with man, who was called Quetzalcoat, who they say is the god of
air." Further, it is explained that Quetzalcoatl sacrificed himself, drawing
forth his own blood with thorns; and that the word Quetzalcoatlotopitzin
means "our well-beloved son."

So Quetzalcoatl seems to have undergone a naked thorn hill climb like mine of
Sept. 5/6, 1991."

And again I wonder if such instances might have influenced the origin of
acupuncture.

From

NEEDLES

"Acupuncture needles are present from ancient times. The ancient needles have
gone a long way of transformation. From sharp stones and wooden thorns
through thick and dull metal spikes to more sophisticated golden and silver
tools, finally to become the standard stainless high technology sterile
single use disposables."
